Mac-Haydn Theatre (Chatham, NY) is seeking the following instrumentalists for the upcoming 2023 summer season. In hopes of engaging with musicians in the Hudson Valley and Albany area, local artists are encouraged to apply. Dates and titles for each position are listed below.

    Drummer/Percussionist: June 18 – September 18 (Full season)

  • $500/wk + $75 travel stipend and housing
  • Please note that MHT does not have a house drum kit. The musician will need to provide the essentials: Kick, Snare, Toms, HighHat, Cymbals, and Hardware. “Specialty Instruments” and Auxiliary Percussion will be provided per show, as needed.
    Cello: July 17 – July 31 (The Sound of Music)

  • $475/wk + $75 travel stipend and housing
    Guitar: July 3 – July 17 (Footloose); July 31 – August 14 (Godspell); August 14 – September 4 (Jersey Boys); September 4 – September 18 (The Marvelous Wonderettes)

  • $475/wk + $75 travel stipend and housing
    Trumpet: June 18 – July 2 (42nd Street); September 4 – September 18 (Jersey Boys)

Housing is available in Chatham for those from outside the region.

The Mac-Haydn Theatre, Chatham, NY is seeking production and administrative staff for its upcoming 2024 summer season. Located 2 hours north of NYC the Mac-Haydn produces 6 mainstage musicals and 3 Special Events during the season. There are also additional performance and educational opportunities. Full Season Dates: May 29 – September 18, 2024.

Qualified Candidates must be highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast paced environment.

Administrative Positions


Company Manager

Reporting to the Company Directors, the Mac-Haydn Theatre seeks a Company Manager to act as the principal liaison between creative, production and administrative teams. The role will include the provision of logistical support to creative and production staff, coordination of travel and housing and the onboarding of summer staff. Some conflict resolution will be required. Qualified candidates must possess strong communication skills, the ability to multitask, excellent organization skills and exercise a proactive, self-starting approach to assisting the company directors in the daily operations of the company.

The role is part time (20/hr) position and will also include additional remote preseason hours, compensated separately. Candidates local to the Chatham Area are encouraged to apply.

Marketing Associate

Reporting to the Promotions & Patron Services Manager, the Marketing Associate will plan and implement the marketing and promotions activities for the 2024 Summer Season. This includes digital marketing and social media campaign planning and execution; website content updates; digital content creation; press releases and outreach; theater signage; publicity of special promotions; print advertising campaign execution; fundraising campaigns and strategies; general administrative support as assigned. Qualified candidates must possess strong communication skills, the ability to multitask, and excellent organization skills.

The role is a full time position and will also include additional remote preseason hours, compensated separately. Candidates local to the Chatham Area are encouraged to apply.

Stage Management Positions


Production Stage Manager

Works closely with all departments of the theater from management, cast and crew to volunteers to create a safe, efficient, and positive work environment. Excellent communication skills are required and candidates must be highly organized.

Compensation: $550/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.
Dates: May 29 – Sep 18, 2024
Reports To: Production Supervisor

Duties will include:

  • Lead the Stage Management team to effectively produce safe and high quality rehearsals and performances of each production.
  • Maintaining show related paperwork including daily schedules, rehearsal and performance reports, run sheets, prop/cast tracking.
  • Running all rehearsals and techs according to a set schedule.
  • Devising Stage Management track for show run.
  • Setting up performances space and assisting in breakdown post show as needed.
  • Checking specific spaces and structures for cleanliness and safety.
  • Performing preset responsibilities including props preset and overseeing all backstage activity when in performance.
  • Calling technical cues during some performances as assigned by the Production Supervisor.
  • Facilitating fight calls, brush-up and understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Responding to performer and staff injuries and first aid needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Assistant Stage Manager

Costume Shop Positions


Costume Shop Manager / First Hand

Works directly with the Costume Designers to execute the patterning, building and fitting of all productions in the season. Applicants should be highly motivated and team oriented, with a strong background in costume construction (patterning, cutting, draping) and must be proficient with hand and machine sewing and alterations. Candidates must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Compensation: $650/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.
Dates: May 29 – Sep 6, 2024 (Some Flexibility Available)
Reports To: Production Supervisor

Duties will include:

  • Providing guidance on costume budget allocations.
  • Managing and scheduling the costume shop team’s hours.
  • Maintaining the shop inventory.
  • Working with the Production Supervisor to manage show costume budgets.

Costume Technician / Stitchers

Works directly with the Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designers to execute the building and fitting of all productions in the season. Applicants should be highly motivated and team oriented, with a strong background in costume construction and must be proficient with hand and machine (home and industrial) sewing, alterations, and flat patterning. Basic draping, dyeing, costume crafts, and millinery are all assets. Candidates must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Set Shop Positions


Scenic Carpenters

Works directly with the Head Carpenter and Scenic Designers to execute the building and installation of all productions in the season. Applicants should be highly motivated with a strong background in scenic construction and must be proficient with hand and power tools, drafting, as well as basic scenic painting. Please indicate any knowledge and experience with electrics. Candidates must be able to lift at least 75 pounds and be comfortable working on ladders.

Compensation: $500/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.

Sound and Audiovisual Positions


Sound Mixer / A2

Works closely with the Sound and Audiovisual Department Manager, the Director and the Choreographers to implement the sound design and maintain all sound equipment. Applicants should be highly motivated with a strong background in digital console programming. Candidates should be familiar with Sennheiser and Shure wireless systems, qLab, and line by line mixing (familiar with a Yamaha TF5). Candidates should be comfortable mixing 16-20 wireless microphones as well as mixing a 5-7 piece orchestra. Candidates must be able to lift at least 75 pounds.

Compensation: $525/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.

Wigs and Make-up Department Positions


Wigs and Make-Up Supervisor / Designer

Works closely with each production team throughout the summer to execute both contemporary and period specific styles as well as the running of shows with any necessary quick changes. Candidates must be very comfortable with the care, styling, and maintenance of lace front wigs of all hair textures, hair styling, and must possess a strong knowledge of theatrical make-up.

Compensation: $550/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.

Wardrobe Department Positions


Wardrobe Supervisor

Oversees all wardrobe related activities during the season including costume maintenance, labeling, hanging and storage, costume preset, cleaning, pressing and steaming, maintaining inventory and restoring. The ideal candidate would have at least 2 years experience working in professional wardrobe departments. Candidates must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Associate Music Director / Keys 2

Works directly with the Music Supervisor to coordinate all musical elements of the 6 Mainstage Productions and Showstoppers, including but not limited to: Preparing musical materials for Musicians, Cast and Production Teams; Rehearse and prepare the productions to performance readiness including programing keyboards; Perform as Keys 2 in the orchestra for all Mainstage Productions and Showstoppers performances; Perform and rehearse when required for auxiliary theater events and promotions.

The candidate may also have the opportunity to serve as Music Director for up to two Mainstage Productions.

Compensation: $550/wk – $600/wk. Housing & Travel Stipend.
