A Message From The Artistic Director

Dear Supporters,

Fifty-five years ago our founders, Lynne Haydn and Linda MacNish, started something beyond magical here at the Mac-Haydn Theatre. For years we have heard their mantra—the Impossible Dream—and the very important mission they began. As I reflect now at the end of the season, I’ve been thinking about how this dream is actually not impossible. In fact, it’s beyond possible and that’s all thanks to your continued support, loyalty, and bravery.

Why bravery you ask? Because the courage and commitment it takes to support an arts organization in today’s world is extremely brave. I want to start this message with a giant thank you for your unwavering bravery. The Mac-Haydn has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade and though there are always challenges to keep the dream alive, we never relent and keep charging forward.

It’s no secret what’s happening in the world today, costs are rising everywhere—from the price of eggs to interest rates. We find ourselves counting on support from community members like you. In 2024 we actively worked to increase development efforts in order to sustain our work. We are determined to hold steady, keep the mission alive, and be a place that is accessible for all. We have not had a “normal” season since 2019 and it feels like we are finally coming back to our old (yet new and fresh) selves. Mac-Haydn is standing on the precipice of renewed sustainability, and we need your help. Using this positive momentum we are eager to continue our efforts, and to build back stronger than ever before. With your help we can ensure a solid foundation for our theater’s continued growth, and continue to support the work of the remarkable artists that bring each season to life.

Attendance is growing every season, new and longtime attendees are joining, and re-joining us more and more. It’s astounding how far many of you travel to spend a show with us—it says so much about your commitment and about what Mac-Haydn provides the community at large. Despite these vulnerable economic times, it is vital that we stay inspired to keep this extraordinary theater thriving, and expanding! Next year we aim to offer even more hits you’ve come to expect, as well as new work development and arts education opportunities.

The surveys have been tallied, the theater and the houses are ready for their winter slumber, and the smash hit shows you love are being chosen as I write this. The team here at the Mac-Haydn Theatre is working hard to make sure that the 2025 season will be one of the best seasons yet. Your donations this time of year are what make this work possible and every single dollar makes an incredible difference.

It is my absolute privilege to be in this position leading the charge, and I am so excited to gather again at the place we all love so much.

My deepest gratitude,

John Saunders
