Children’s Theatre Workshop to perform Pirates of Penzance on Monday, August 9 at 5 & 7:30 p.m.
This summer’s Mac-Haydn Musical Theatre Workshop presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.
Pirates will be presented at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham. Performances are on Monday, August 9th at 5:00PM and 7:30PM. Tickets are $6.00 and may be purchased at the Mac-Haydn Theatre box office. Proceeds help to benefit the workshop’s programs as well as the workshop’s scholarship fund.
Adapted for young audiences by workshop director Edgar Acevedo and musician Patricia Randall, the story tells of an innocent young man who is torn between his sense of duty and the love he holds for his fellow pirates.
At the age of twenty-one, Frederic’s apprenticeship to the softhearted band of orphan pirates is complete. Frederic vows to follow his sense of duty by exterminating his former friends in order to make up for his years of being a pirate. But, just as he is about to find great happiness with his new love, the Major General’s daughter, the pirate king informs Frederic that he is a leap year baby and thus only five years old. Following his sense of duty, Frederic leaves his sweetheart and rejoins the pirates.
Join us in a fun evening of classical adventure, romance and laughs. The musical runs one hour and features more than 40 young actors playing daring pirates, beautiful maidens and brave policemen.
Young actors in Mac-Haydn Workshop receive lessons in stage combat from clowning expert Sean Fagan.
